Railway Cable Route Plan Cable Schematics Core Plans

Cable Route Plan.

This plan is normally derived from/superimposed on the relevant Loc area plan. This shows the details of the main cable route relative to the signal box or interlocking, field location cases and REBs.

Cable route survey is conducted and the following information derived from this survey report shall be shown on the cable route plan. (RT/E/C/11210 App 2A05)

  1. a) Cable route position in relation to signal boxes, locations, signal posts, etc, including the minimum distance from the track.
  1. b) Type of the following

* SCT – surface concrete troughing

* GRC- glass fiber reinforced concrete

* BCT – buried concrete troughing

* BD – buried direct (nonpreferred method)

* BKS – on brackets

* BTR – buried tube route

* CAP – concrete asbestos on post

  1. c) Turning chambers,manholes, or cable pits
  2. d) Under track crossings, quoting the depth and the number of ducts
  3. e) The depth of buried cables
  4. f) Position of through joints in main multicore cables
  5. g) Dimensions of each item from a known datum

Cable Schematics

This plan shows the details of all the cables(and their sizes) proposed to be installed between signal boxes or interlockings and locations.

The plan should be divided at interlocking boundaries.

The Schematics should be able to meet the following purposes:

* Cable ordering

* Planning/running of cable laying trains

* Production of other design details (cable core plans etc)

* Updating of records

* Alterations to show proposed signaling works.

Cable Schematics shall contain the following details for each multi core cable, data link and power cable. Tail cables need not be shown.

* Cable size

* Number of conductors

* Specification and type of cables

* Unique cable name

* Whether Copper or Aluminium (for Power cables)

* Locations in which cables are terminated

* Distance betweens

* Position of joints, ref to the nearest loc or other feature

* Repeater (or cut-section ) locations (where designated)

Cable Core Plan

Allocation of signaling functions to designated cores in multi core or data link cables are shown on this plan. Like Cable Schematics, the Core plans should be divided at interlocking boundaries.

Cable Core plans are necessary for:

* Commissioning and testing

* Producing other design details (circuit diagram termination sheets, power supply wiring etc)

* Updating for record purpose

* Routine and incidents testing

* Facilitating preventive and corrective maintenance

* Correlation of site wiring and records

* Alterations to show proposed signaling works

Cable core plan (multi core and data link cables except tail cables and power cables) should contain the following information:

* Cable size

* Number of conductors

* Specification and type of cable

* Unique cable name

* Locations in which the cables are terminated

* Cable core numbers and allocations

* Which cores are connected through at each location

* Repeater (cut-section) locations

The naming of the cable cores shall correspond to the circuit names on the respective cable termination sheets.
